Sunday, October 2 2005: The community held annual elections for a new administration, by ballot. There were one hundred-and-two eligible voters (i.e., adult members of the community), out of which eighty-one voted. They chose Rayek Rizek as secretary general (equivalent to mayor) replacing Abdessalam Najjar, who did not run for re-election. Rayek (who has served for three years previously as sect. general) will be joined by a (voluntary) secretarial team of five members: Maurice Ben Yishai, Ahmad Hijazi, Eitan Kremer, Dorit Shippin and Hezi Shuster. All have served previously; Eitan and Dorit were re-elected after serving on the outgoing secretariat. The team meets weekly to deliberate operational issues in the community and its institutions.
